About

Silent Rain is a journal written from the perspective of a night elf priestess in the game World of Warcraft and a collection of stories and scenes involving her as well.  For the most part, all entries are written in character as though they were penned by Lesara.  The title Silent Rain was chosen because I have set that to be the rough translation of her family’s name (Ethala’Aman).  However, though the name might suggest a sadness, Lesara tends to be optimistic and sees rain as a life-giving force rather than a sad event.  Thus the tagline, “A quiet brush of life.”  Indeed, Lesara is a quiet person, content to remain in the background, providing support and hope as she can.

Description
Lesara usually has a calm and collected appearance, illustrating the patience and carefully measured movements of many long-lived races.  She is of average build and height for a kaldorei, though perhaps a few inches shorter.  Typically she can be seen with a soft smile.  Her skin is a very pale pink and her eyes a softly glowing white with barely visible silver irises.  Her white hair extends just passed her waist and is usually loose.  Recently, however, she has stopped the matrilineal tradition of making and using an herbal wash that colours the hair white, so her hair has slowly reverted to it’s natural shade of azure-blue.  She has a small scar-like, black crescent moon tattoo on her right temple, but her hair is usually concealing it.  She smells very much like the herbs she is always working (which isn’t always good, some medicinal herbs tend to have rather sharp or pungent scents).

Personality
Calm and serene, Lesara typically conducts herself with the careful and purposeful demeanor of a highly trained priestess.  She is reserved and gentle, considerate and empathic.  She prefers to lead the grove as more of a guide and example than a boss.

Family
Kalshen is her older brother.  Ethan’y'len is her father (handicapped), currently living in the family home with her.  Her mother, Ysareline, is deceased (dishonorably so).

Background
I play like elves physically mature at nearly the same rate as humans, they are just permitted to have a longer period of innocence that can make some quite child-like.  I also do not have my elves pinpoint their ages very clearly, I think they would only start marking age more closely after the loss of immortality.  Having said that, Lesara is only about 200-500 years old (though she acts much older).

Most of her life was spent being raised very strictly by her mother, the family matriarch, to be the future matriarch and heir to the knowledge and power of a long line of Ethala’Aman shadow priestesses in a very secretive order.  Even at younger ages Lesara had more of a knack for the holy aspect of Elune, preferring to heal and nurture, but she was forced into the world of shadow and mysteries to follow in the footsteps of the matriarchs before her.  Something of a bully, Ysareline was indifferent to Lesara’s older brother and quite fond of shoving him (and their father) out of sight, particularly when either tried to intervene in her work with Lesara.  On one particular event, Ysareline branded Lesara with the scar-like tattoo of her order’s symbol (black crescent moon) and quite clearly forbid her to heal it.

When the kaldorei lost their immortality, something in Ysareline snapped and she became desperate, delving ever deeper in the shadow and forbidden knowledge, obsessed with the key to some new source of immortality.  Ysareline forced her daughter into being her protege, so when officials found out, both Lesara and her mother were arrested.  Ysareline was beheaded, but Lesara was allowed to live, provided she prove she was an unwilling participant by joining the holy order, forsaking all shadow magics, and ending the Ethala’Aman matriarchy with a vow of chastity.

Lesara gladly took the vow and eventually pushed the past behind her, speaking of it so rarely that no one else knows the true extent to what happened.  The only sign of those times is the old scar tattoo that is too old to heal.
